2017-10-15    HWBI as an ISB Technical Group

HWBI has officially become a Technical Group affiliated with the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB). 2016-11-10    Marc Garcia-Elias, MD as IFSSH President-Elect
HWBI congratulates Marc Garcia-Elias, MD on being elected as the President-Elect of the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH, www.ifssh.info) during the IFSSH Congress in Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 24-28, 2016. Dr. Garcia-Elias will be installed as IFSSH President in 2019 for a term of three years (2019-2022). IFSSH was formed in 1966 to coordinate the activities of the various Societies for Surgery of the Hand throughout the world, and in this way to increase and spread knowledge of surgery of the hand. As an Allied Organization of IFSSH, HWBI benefits from IFSSH’s established excellence as a premier international federation and their vast umbrella network in promoting basic science and clinical applications. In turn, HWBI, contributes to its specialty knowledge in the broad field of hand surgery of IFSSH. Dr. Garcia-Elias is an enthusiastic supporter of HWBI and has been instrumental in the development of HWBI for over 20 years. Dr. Garcia-Elias is the co-chair of the upcoming 11th Symposium of Hand and Wrist Biomechanics International (HWBI 2017), which will be held in July 2017 in Brisbane, Australia.


2015-10-31  HWBI Symposium 2015 a success
The Hand and Wrist Biomechanics International (HWBI) held its 9th Symposium at Milano Congressi in Milan, Italy from June 16-17, 2015. The symposium was held in conjunction with the 20th Congress of Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH). The symposium program featured 56 presentations including keynotes, invited talks, and open paper submissions. Main topics covered at this year’s event included the wrist, carpal tunnel, finger mechanics, motor control, distal radial ulnar joint (DRUJ), distal radius, ligaments, tendons, and biomaterials. The 2015 symposium also featured the 2nd International Thumb Osteoarthritis Workshop. There was record attendance at this year’s event, with 102 participants including hand surgeons, hand therapists, and engineers from 16 countries. Our symposium success has been highlighted by International Society of Biomechanics (ISB) on its newsletter and by the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH) on its Ezine.

2015-10-15    Kai-Nan An, PhD, recipient of ISB 2015 Muybridge Award

Kai-Nan An, PhD, a member of the HWBI Board of Directors, is the recipient of the 2015 Muybridge Award of the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB). The Muybridge Award is the most prestigious ISB award for career achievements in biomechanics. The award is named after Edward Muybridge (1830-1904), who was the first to use cinematography for the study of human and animal movement. 



2014-11-05      HWBI featured in IFSSH Ezine

As a member society of the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH), HWBI was featured in IFSSH’s recent issue of Ezine. The HWBI-IFSSH alliance was officially established in 2014 for HWBI to contribute its biomechanics specialty knowledge to IFSSH’s advancement of hand surgery and research.

2013-09-08    Brussels Hand / Upper Limb International Symposium
Prof. Dr. F. Schuind, a member of HWBI Board of Directors, announces that the 22nd Brussels Hand / Upper Limb International Symposium will take place on 24 and 25 January 2014 in Genval / Brussels, Belgium. The primary goals of the Symposium are to promote the exchange of ideas, to establish guidelines on a consensual basis, and to foster collaborative investigations among various specialists. The key theme of this year's edition is “Tendon Disorders and Injuries at the Upper Limb: Basic Knowledge,

2012-11-15    William H. Seitz, Jr, MD as ASSH Vice President

HWBI congratulates William H. Seitz, Jr., MD on being elected vice president of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) at its recent 67th annual meeting. Dr. Seitz will take office as the 69th president of the society during the ASSH annual meeting in 2014. Dr. Seitz has been a member of the HWBI’s Board of Directors and hosted the 7th Triennial International Hand and Wrist Biomechanics Symposium in 2010

 
2012-09-15    Establishment of Hand and Wrist Biomechanics International (HWBI)
At the 8th Triennial International Hand and Wrist Biomechanics Symposium in Yokohama, Japan, the international advisory board decided to form an organization to enhance the development of hand/wrist biomechanics. The name of the organization is officially established as Hand and Wrist Biomechanics International -- HWBI. The Board of Directors are Kai-Nan An, Moroe Beppu, Marc Garcia-Elias, Zong-Ming Li (Chair), David L. Nelson, Frederic Schuind, William H. Seitz, Fong-Chin Su, and Frederick W. Werner.
