Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Organizing Committee have rescheduled the combined event of the 20th Annual New Technology in Upper Extremity Surgery: The Cutting Edge With Advancing Translational Research and Hand and Wrist Biomechanics International (HWBI) Symposium during June 14-17, 2020 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. This same event is scheduled to take place during May 2-5, 2021 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. 2018-07-28 Call for Abstracts: HWBI Symposium together with IFSSH/IFSHT 2019
Hand and Wrist Biomechanics International (HWBI) will hold its next biomechanics symposium in conjunction with the 14th IFSSH & 11th IFSHT Triennial Congress during June 17-21, 2019 in Berlin, Germany. The 2019 IFSSH & IFSHT Congress will combine the international (IFSSH & IFSHT), European (FESSH & EFSHT) and German national (DGH & DAHTH) congresses and HWBI for hand surgeons, therapists, and bioengineers in one major event. All are invited to submit biomechanics abstracts now through September 30, 2018. Abstracts are submitted using the IFSSH/IFSHT online platform (click here) and choose the topic “Miscellaneous” (reserved for HWBI Symposium for Hand/Wrist Biomechanics). HWBI congratulates Marc Garcia-Elias, MD on being elected as the President-Elect of the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH, www.ifssh.info) during the IFSSH Congress in Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 24-28, 2016. Dr. Garcia-Elias will be installed as IFSSH President in 2019 for a term of three years (2019-2022). IFSSH was formed in 1966 to coordinate the activities of the various Societies for Surgery of the Hand throughout the world, and in this way to increase and spread knowledge of surgery of the hand. As an Allied Organization of IFSSH, HWBI benefits from IFSSH’s established excellence as a premier international federation and their vast umbrella network in promoting basic science and clinical applications. In turn, HWBI, contributes to its specialty knowledge in the broad field of hand surgery of IFSSH. Dr. Garcia-Elias is an enthusiastic supporter of HWBI and has been instrumental in the development of HWBI for over 20 years. 2015-10-31 HWBI Symposium 2015 a success
The Hand and Wrist Biomechanics International (HWBI) held its 9th Symposium at Milano Congressi in Milan, Italy from June 16-17, 2015. The symposium was held in conjunction with the 20th Congress of Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH). The symposium program featured 56 presentations including keynotes, invited talks, and open paper submissions. Main topics covered at this year’s event included the wrist, carpal tunnel, finger mechanics, motor control, distal radial ulnar joint (DRUJ), distal radius, ligaments, tendons, and biomaterials. The 2015 symposium also featured the 2nd International Thumb Osteoarthritis Workshop. There was record attendance at this year’s event, with 102 participants including hand surgeons, hand therapists, and engineers from 16 countries. Kai-Nan An, PhD, a member of the HWBI Board of Directors, is the recipient of the 2015 Muybridge Award of the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB). The Muybridge Award is the most prestigious ISB award for career achievements in biomechanics. Prof. Dr. F. Schuind, a member of HWBI Board of Directors, announces that the 22nd Brussels Hand / Upper Limb International Symposium will take place on 24 and 25 January 2014 in Genval / Brussels, Belgium. The primary goals of the Symposium are to promote the exchange of ideas, to establish guidelines on a consensual basis, and to foster collaborative investigations among various specialists. The key theme of this year's edition is “Tendon Disorders and Injuries at the Upper Limb: Basic Knowledge,Advances in Diagnosis and Treatment”.
